ROADIE FREE RADIO PRESENTS:
GIRL ON THE ROAD: How To Break Into Touring From A Female Perspective
by Claire Murphy
So you wanna be a Roadie?
Live life on the road, tour with rockstars?
Then you’ve come to the right place! Over the course of the following videos I talk with guitar tech Claire Murphy as she takes us though the main parts of her amazing book; GIRL ON THE ROAD: How To Break Into Touring From A Female Perspective.
During these discussions we break down everything from the initial steps you need to take to start breaking in, money matters, the different stages of touring, and several tips for living on and off the road.
Claire Murphy is a Guitar Tech originally from Wales, and currently based out of Long Beach, CA. For the last four years she has been with Vance Joy as his tech over his last two album cycles.
Through determination, perseverance, and plenty of hard work and luck, Claire has managed to turn her passion for music, and in particular, live music, into a professional career. A guitarist in her own right, she found anyone who would mentor her or teach her the skills she needed to find a tour and get on the road.
Over the last decade, Claire has toured with Dum Dum Girls, Babes In Toyland, The Ravonettes, Elle King, and Tegan & Sarah.
She is a member of Soundgirls.org, offering her time to young women seeking a path into the touring industry.
